"
Beginner Snake Shot"
...A.
Set the ball pinned up front on the Big Dot every time. After
retrieving the pass, position the ball on the inside of the 1st man on the
5 bar. Then chip or slice the ball from the left side of the 1st man's
foot chipping or slicing the ball up to the front of the second man on the
5 bar in a front pinned position. Then while the ball is front pinned,
walk the ball over to the Big Middle Dot. Tap the foot down on the ball
extending the ball back or up out further until you get it to the proper
front pinned set position.
…B. Cocked Wrist Grip. Position your wrist properly on the
handle. After getting the ball set to the proper set position, remove your
hand and then place your wrist on the handle with your fingers pointing
down at the ground. Different people have different size wrists and arms
therefore the sweet spot may be a little different for everyone. As a
general rule the sweet spot to position your wrist on the handle is
somewhere between the point at which your hand connects to your wrist and
1.5. inches from this point higher up on your wrist. I think the closer
you position it to the connection between your hand and wrist the better
off you will be. Either way the final position must allow for you to
perform a back flip and then catch the handle with your fingertips.
...C. Learn the Rock From the Cocked Wrist Grip; Apply a
little downward pressure by pushing your wrist onto the rod handle which
is pinning the ball to the playing surface. Apply enough pressure to pin
the ball so it does not slip out and it is able to be controlled by your
wrist grip while you rock the ball side to side. At the cocked pressure
applied position practice rocking the ball 1/2 roll towards the far wall
and then 1/2 roll towards the near wall. In doing so you will notice the
importance in keeping downward pressure from your arm and wrist pushing
down on the ball to keep it in a controlled pinned position against the
table surface. Learn to rock the ball to the left, rock it to the right,
push rock, pull rock, push rock, pull rock, then with the rock pull
momentum push off pushing the ball towards the far wall. Do this at first
for about 20 times so you get the feel of just pushing the ball off the
rocked pull position....Then Rock Push, Rock Pull, rock Push, Rock Pull,
Rock Push, then pull the ball towards the near wall. Do this at first for
about 20 times so you get the feel of just pulling the ball off the rocked
push position
...D.. The Rollover Back flip. At the Cocked Wrist Position,
while pressure is continuously being applied to the rod handle by your
wrist, lift your arm straight as an arrow towards the ceiling and start
rolling the man over doing a back flip. After the man strikes the ball,
follow through with the man, continuing the back rollover flip, so that
the man extends out to the original pinned starting set position. Then
slightly bend the tips of your fingers in order to grip the handle with
your finger tips as you catch and control the handle. Practice just doing
this rollover back flip hitting the ball in straight for about 20 times
until you get the feel of it.
...E. Reading the Defense.. Normally the defense will
be moving fast trying to not leave a hole open for more than a split
second. You will need to learn to keep your eyes on the moving defense and
time your shot to hit the moving open hole. One advantage of the Snake
shot is that since you have pressure on the ball while it's rocking you
can take your eyes off the ball and watch the defensive pattern of the
Goalie reading their pattern tendencies looking for a hole to shoot at.
...F. Watching some of Inside Foos Championship Videos would
really help you speed up the process in interpreting and learning this
shot. Many people think that the Snake( also called Wrist Rocket &
Rollover) is the easier shot to learn.
"Shooting Holes"
...1. Straight Big Middle Dot... From the same Cocked Wrist
Front Pin Position, pushrock, pullrock pull, pushrock, Pullrock,
then rock back towards the push side, and just when the ball gets even to
the Big Middle Dot, using the center man (currently pinning and rocking
the ball), do a back flip striking the ball straight into the Middle hole.
Or when the ball come off the Pushrock starting back towards the Pull
side, just when the ball gets even to the Big Middle Dot, using the center
man (currently pinning and rocking the ball), do a back flip striking the
ball straight into the Middle hole.
...2. Push 6.5 Dot Pull 1.5 Dot... From the same Cocked
Wrist Front Pin Position, pushrock, pullrock, pushrock, PULLROCK, then
push the ball towards the far wall. Practice Pushing off the rock (like
when Michael Jordan is dribbling the basketball and plants his right leg
then all the sudden he pushes off this right leg and does a jump shot to
his left side). This will be a pushrock, pullrock, pushrock, PULLROCK,
then using the pullrock momentum push off pushing the ball towards the far
wall. Catch up with the ball using with the center man (which was
currently pinning and rocking the ball) and do a back flip striking the
ball into the push side hole about two ball lengths from the Big Middle
Dot. Then after Brush striking the ball, follow through by pulling the
three bar towards the near wall with the men finishing up in the extended
post strike position.
...3. Pull 1.5 Dot.. From the same Cocked Wrist Front Pin
Position, pushrock, pullrock, pushrock, pullrock, pushrock, pullrock,
PUSHROCK, then using the pushrock momentum pull the ball towards the near
wall.. Practice Pulling off the rock (like when Michael Jordan is
dribbling the basketball and plants his left leg then all the sudden he
pullpushes off this left leg and does a jump shot to his right side). This
will be a pushrock, pullrock, pushrock, pullrock, PUSHROCK, then
using the pushrock momentum, reverse directions pushpulling the ball
towards the near wall. Catch up with the ball using the center man (which
was currently pinning and rocking the ball) to do a back flip striking the
ball into the pull side hole about two ball lengths from the Big Middle
Dot. Then after Brush striking the ball, follow through by pushing the
three bar towards the far wall with the men finishing up in the extended
post strike position.
