Ball Control Practicing Methods
...1.
Learning to control the ball and position it where you need it set up in
order to execute a shot by having time to read the defense, before you are
called for time possession is very important.
...2. You need to practice tossing , kicking, front pinning, back
pinning, down brushing , up brushing, and weaving the ball in between the
various men all over the table .Spend a significant amount of time doing
this between all the men on the 5 bar, the Forward's three bar, and the
Goalie's two bar.
...3. Starting the ball on the 1st man on the three rod, push the
ball to the 3rd man then kick it back to the second man, then kick it back
to the 3rd man, then kick it back to the 1st man, raising the middle man
as the ball moves past the middle man towards the 1st man. Practice this
for a few minutes every day for the first month and more if needed.
...4. Starting the ball on the 1st man on your goalie, push it
across the table towards the far wall, let it kick back to the 1st man,
let it kick back to the second man, then pull it towards the 1st man ,
then push it back towards the second man , then pull it again towards the
1st man. Practice this for a few minutes every day for the first month and
more if needed.
...5. Practice bumping the ball off the far wall using the second
man on the Goalie 2-Bar, allowing the ball time to bounce off the wall
before letting the man to come into contact with the ball. Doing this will
help you to learn how to set up the ball for the Goalie Pull Shot series.
After kicking the ball to the wall, quickly pull the man away from the
ball allowing a 1 or 2 ball gap between the wall and ball, which will
allow the ball to bounce off the wall about a ball or two before it sets
up against the man.
...6. Practice bumping the ball off the near wall using the 1st man
on the Goalie 2-Bar, allowing the ball time to bounce off the wall before
letting the man to come into contact with the ball. Doing this will help
you to learn how to set up the ball for the Goalie Push Shot series. After
kicking the ball to the wall quickly push the man away from the ball
allowing a 1 or 2 ball gap between the wall and ball, which will allow the
ball to bounce off the wall about a ball or two before it sets up against
the man.
...7. Close to the Near Wall, Using the 1st man on the Goalie 2
Rod, Practice pushing the ball back to the 1st man on the Goalie three
rod, and then from the 1st man on the Goalie's three rod, push the ball
back to the 1st man on the Goalie's two rod. Do this in a patty cake-
patty cake motion over and over until it becomes a natural feel. Doing
this will help you to learn how to set up the ball for the Goalie Push
Shot series. Practice this until you can do this about 30-50 times a day
without loosing control of the ball.
...8. Close to the Far Wall., Using the 2nd man on the Goalie 2
Rod, Practice pushing the ball back to the 3rd man on the Goalie three
rod, and then from the 3rd man on the Goalie's three rod, push the ball
back to the 2nd man on the Goalie's two rod. Do this in a patty cake-
patty cake motion over and over until it becomes a natural feel. Doing
this will help you to learn how to set up the ball for the Goalie Pull
Shot series. Practice this until you can do this about 30-50 times a day
without loosing control of the ball.
...9. Turn all the men up on the tables except for your Goalie men.
Now strike the ball with a man on the Goalie 2-Rod from various positions
in your Goalie area moving the ball towards the opposing goal hitting the
opposing backwall. The ball will then bank back heading towards your goal.
Then block this ball from going into your goal. Continuing to do this
drill faster and faster will help you to learn how to block and keep
poorly executed shots from going into your Goal.
