Serve and set the ball. Maneuver and push the ball over using the
first man on the rod, and then the second man to position it directly
underneath the bar. Set the ball a little to the left of the bar with the
man tilted a little bit back. Most people set the ball from a spot
directly under the bar to about 1 ball lengths behind the bar towards your
defensive goal. At set position the 5 bar will be pushed all the way
against the far wall and the ball will be snug centered evenly up against
the second man on the Rod. For the first year always set the ball at this
position and start your passing series from this set position.
...B. The Three Bar Position: Set the three bar in the
Catch Position. You do this by pulling the three rod towards you, all the
way up against the near wall, and then tilt the man's foot forward at
about a 45 degree angle out toward your opponent's goal. Leave your three
man set in this catch position at all times, until you strike the ball
passing on any type of hole other than the wall, then just when you strike
the ball in completing the execution of the pass, move the three man rod
out and catch or control the pass.
...C. Catch or control the pass. When you pass to the
wall, you will strike the ball into the man sitting on the wall and the
ball will be caught by this first man if tilted correctly pinned up
against the wall. You really don't have to do much other than make sure
you have it tilted forward at the right angle degree and it will stick in
between the man and the wall after you hit the the ball into this area.
Now if you pass down the lane, Immediately when you strike the ball to
pass the lane , you then push the three rod over about 2 inches leaving
the man remaining in the tilted down position. Depending on the rough
texture quality of the ball you are using, The firmness of your grip on
the three rod (don't grip it too tight as it needs a little room to give
when the ball strikes into it as the ball can then be slid underneath the
man pinned at a catch position) and the exact tilted position of your man,
the ball may stick and be caught as the catching man and the playing
surface acts as the two sides of a baseball glove closing, griping and
pinning the man between the man's heal and the playing table surface.
However it is not necessary to catch passes. All you really need to do is
just control the passes on your 5 bar. Adjust your level of firmness and
flexibility on the three rod so that after the ball is passed into and
hits the three rod man, the ball bounces into and back a little, and
you then nick the ball a little or quickly slide your three man around the
back of the ball to control it.
5-Green Beginner Stick Passes .
...1. Set Wall Pass... Pull the ball laterally
almost all the way to the wall, just before (about 1.5 ball lengths) the
ball gets to the wall, slide the first man on the 5-Bar just enough
reverse motorcycle back swing to get over the ball, and then strike the
ball towards the first man sitting up against the wall. Let the ball hit
into the area of the first man on your three bar and the wall. Do not move
the three bar at all as you allow the three bar set position to easily
catch the ball after it is struck properly towards the area between the
first man and the wall. Start real slow at first and moving to as fast as
you can hit and control it eventually in one motion. When executed
properly the ball will finish up pinned in between the 1st man's foot on
the three bar and the wall. Use the closed hand grip to execute this pass.
...2. Set 1st Lane Stick Pass... Pull the ball laterally
almost all the way to the 1st lane from the wall, just before (about 1.5
ball lengths) the ball gets to the wall, slide the first man on the 5-Bar
just enough reverse motorcycle back swing to get over the ball, and then
strike the ball dead evenly down the first lane. Immediately as you strike
the ball simply slide the three man bar off the wall pushing it about two
ball lengths to the lane, keeping the men in the same tilted position.
Start real slow at first and moving to as fast as you can hit and control
it eventually in one motion. When executed properly the ball will finish
up pinned in between the 1st man's foot on the three bar and the playing
surface or controlled by your three rod man. Use the closed hand grip to
execute this pass.
...3. Set-Wall Bounce Lane Pass... Pull the ball laterally
all the way to the wall, do the reverse motorcycle grip back swing moving
your man out of the way of the ball so the ball can bounce back off the
wall, let the ball bounce off the wall back to the first lane, then strike
the ball dead evenly down the first lane. Immediately as you strike the
ball simply slide the three man bar off the wall pushing it about two ball
lengths to the lane, keeping the men in the same tilted position. Start
real slow at first and moving to as fast as you can hit and control it
eventually in one motion.. When executed properly the ball will finish up
pinned in between the 1st man's foot on the three bar and the playing
surface or controlled by your three rod man. Use the closed hand grip to
execute this pass.
...4. Set-2-1-2 Second Lane Pass... Pull the ball laterally
all the way into the first man, stop your lateral movement of the five bar
and let the ball roll freely into the first man, let the ball bounce back
off the first man changing directions back to the almost original set
position to the second lane, do the reverse motorcycle grip back swing
moving your man out of the way of the ball, so the ball can get into
strike position, then strike the ball dead evenly down the second lane
using the second man on the 5 bar. Do not move the three bar at all as you
allow the second man on the three bar set position to easily catch or
control the ball after it is struck properly down the second lane. Start
real slow at first and moving to as fast as you can hit and control it
eventually in one motion. When executed properly the ball will finish up
pinned or controlled under the second man's foot on the three bar and the
playfield. Use the closed hand grip to execute this pass.
...5. 3.Set-Wall Bounce Wall Pass... Pull the ball laterally
all the way to the wall, do the reverse motorcycle grip back swing moving
your man out of the way of the ball so the ball can bounce back off the
wall, let the ball bounce off the wall back off about 1/2-1 ball length,
then strike the ball down the wall. Let the ball hit into the area of the
first man on your three bar and the wall. Do not move the three bar at all
as you allow the three bar set position to easily catch the ball after it
is struck properly towards the area between the first man and the wall.
Start real slow at first and moving to as fast as you can hit and control
it eventually in one motion. When executed properly the ball will finish
up pinned in between the 1st man's foot on the three bar and the wall. Use
the closed hand grip to execute this pass.
